British Young Pilots (BYP) was established in 2023 with a mission to provide young people with the opportunity to experience flight and learn about aviation. Whilst for some, this will be a route into an exciting and fulfilling career, our core aim is really to boost self-esteem and confidence.
In 2024, BYP has made significant strides in expanding its reach and impact. We have assembled an exceptionally experienced team of instructors and flying club leaders, primarily comprising retired commercial and military pilots eager to pass on their knowledge and passion. Our growth is supported by a burgeoning list of schools, both independent and state-funded, that are keen to partner with BYP in establishing a flying club.
Whilst we continue to collaborate with existing flying schools to facilitate the practical flying training component; BYP is also taking exciting steps towards building our own aircraft fleet. The acquisition of an Ikarus C42, equipped with a Ballistic Parachute Recovery System (BRC), marks a pivotal moment for our training program. This aircraft is widely regarded as an excellent option for training; ensuring safety and reliability for our young pilots.
Looking ahead, BYP is enthusiastic about the prospect of establishing sustainable flying clubs for aspiring young aviators throughout the UK in the future. Our commitment to nurturing the next generation of pilots is unwavering and we are excited to continue our journey in aviation education.
The power of dreams:
“Flying is an immense privilege, taking the controls of a small aircraft for the first time is an almost magical, life-affirming experience, it’s something no-one ever forgets. I created BYP to give that opportunity to young people. BYP puts aviation in reach, it makes flying an aircraft accessible and opens the door into the aviation world for the next generation.”
