IN SCHOOL FLYING CLUBS
HOW IT WORKS
BYP run flying clubs in schools as a co-curricular activity. Our instructors, typically retired airline or military pilots, teach practical flying skills on a flight SIM alongside a rich academic aviation based syllabus. Students will fly a real aircraft twice per term.
We are a civilian flying school and have in-house examiners which means students can pass PPL exams, go solo at 16 and a motivated student can leave school with a pilots license.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ACHIEVEMENT:
The BYP training program closely follows that of an adult pilot training syllabus. Level 5 exceeds the standards required to qualify for a pilots license.
BYP SINGLE TERM ‘WINGS’ SYLLABUS
This is the first level of achievement and our mission is to make this available to as many children as possible. This course consists of 10 classroom sessions and two real flights and is designed to span an academic term. Students learn how to:
Move an aircraft around all three axis (role, pitch and yaw)
Coordinate the controls and throttle to effectively fly the aircraft.
Learn how to take off, fly a circuit and land the aircraft.
Ground subjects include
Aerodynamics; control surfaces and wings
Aircraft instruments
Weather; wind, clouds and rain
Engines & aircraft design
Navigation
Careers in aviation
BYP LEVELS 1 - 5
Once students have their Wings, they work through our syllabus from level 1 to level 5. Level 1 is age appropriate for children in year 6 and 7 and progresses to level 5 which is appropriate for GCSE/A-Level students and exceeds the standard required for a pilots license.

BYP & CCF
BYP dove tails excellently with an existing CCF unit, extending and enhancing the offering. We are able to provide Cadets with the opportunity to take their flying further and gain civilian qualifications. We are also able provide non CCF students with the opportunity to engage with aviation and fly regularly - we have no limit on the amount of flying hours we can offer.
At least 6 flights per year.
Hours flown count towards a pilots licence (for over 14’s)
Pass civilian pilot exams
There is every opportunity for motivated students to fly solo at 16 and leave school with a pilots licence.
INSTRUCTORS:
Our in-school club leaders are all seasoned aviators with deep experience but most importantly, they love to share their passion for flying.
We work hard to match the right school with the right instructor and draw from a pool of retired commercial, military and experienced GA pilots.
The flying element is conducted by a BYP affiliated flying instructor using our own school aircraft. We also partner with third party flying schools which allows us extra flexibility and increases aircraft availability.
